A spotter, spotted!

Today, whilst I was photographing this garish pair, I was spotted by a friend who was about to text me to tell me about these delights. Imagine if when people saw discarded seating and thought of me in the same moment, that meant I was then transported to that location. What adventures I’d have.

However, it might be a bit inconvenient at times…

Birmingham treats!

I went to Birmingham for the weekend to visit my family and whilst there we went for a walk along the river cole. It is rare that I visit and we don’t visit the river, but this time we went even further than usual. One thing I was surprised to see was such a variety of birds. There were seagulls, pigeons, ducks, magpies, a robin…and those were only the ones I could identify with my poor knowledge and experience in bird spotting!

We got to a road and thought we better loop back. On this road there was a discarded sofa (which had the remains of snow on it) and an armchair. There was also a sign in a door window saying ‘No Broken picture frames’ which was the topic of conversation on our way homewards.

Later on me and my Brother went on a sunset seeking mission and on the way spotted a pink chair trapped behind a metal fence with lots of other stuff.

Caged furniture

There have been a few times recently that I have walked around the Sherwood/Carrington area and have sighted chairs thrown into cages (well behind railings at least). There is something even more sad looking about a chair that isn’t even accessible by people to perform it’s number one function, to be sat upon.

Sofas in the snow

There were three sofa’s on Mansfield Road left out in the snow today. The cream one has been there for weeks and has experienced most of the English weather system, the poor love.

Then there was a black armchair which looks like it’s wearing a floral under skirt.

And last but not least a red armchair pushed up against a wall.

I decided to do a google search for ‘Sofa in the snow’ and this time lapse video of someone building a snow sofa came up. How ace!

Frosty

This photo was taken by my Mum, Ali. I don’t think I’ve ever seen frost on a cobweb like this, looks like beautiful lace.

Yesterday I decided to go on my own frost finding adventure. I saw a sofa covered in frost which was glistening.

Today I got up early, threw on clothes and Al and I wandered to the Pirate park in search of more frosty sights. It wasn’t as cold but there were still some signs that Frost had visited. I love a frosty morning!

I might well have ended up on the amazing swing…

Wow!

This is a flipping chair on a New Years day roof! Captured beautifully by my friend Phil. Thank you for such a cracking find!

Eye spy

This was spied on the way into Sherwood. I love the ones that I catch out of the corner of my eye! This is the first discarded chair of 2012. The first shop I entered this year was Wilkos. Rock and roll!

New year, more art!

I have got lots of ideas which i’m looking forward to experimenting with this year. As well as making more art, I would like to go to more exhibitions and read more generally. I am also going to attempt to write a diary for the whole year (not just January!)

The image I would like to start the year sharing is George Shaw’s ‘while no-one was looking -2010’. I saw this a couple of days ago at The Herbert gallery and was so pleased to see it!

Happy New Year!!!

Christmas walk

Yesterday we went for a lovely walk and on the return home I spotted this leather delight. An early Christmas present of sorts.

Scottish delights

Whilst holidaying in the ‘burgh I spotted these chairs. I like that they mark a journey to somewhere for me. I will remember where I was going and how I was feeling when I saw them. They stop me in my tracks and changes my direction, and this is what makes me smile.
